Q: Why do we call ourselves “Mac ‘n’ Cheese”?
A: MaC is a comfort food – we hope to bring comfort to families with whom we work.
MaC is a traditional but versatile food found in many households and can range from packaged recipes to elaborate, homemade preparations. Similarly, we believe we can meet many of your needs – from simple information gathering through our Noodle Papers and presentations to the more complex, individualized mentoring and coaching we provide in the home.
For many of our friends on the spectrum, MaC is one of the few foods they enjoy, even if it’s GFCF. And MaC is the standard menu in our homes on nights when we are working!
Q: Why did we start Mac 'n' Cheese?
A: Autism is a complex disorder - not just neurologically, but socially, emotionally, financially, and from an educational perspective. As parents, we have to master each of these facets while providing continuous care to our families. It's a demanding life. Professionals are important in helping us care for and learn about our children, but we have found that there is often a missing link between the guidance they provide and what it takes to keep our families moving forward. We have to be savvy enough to know what guidance to accept and how to adapt it to fit our needs. To do that, we must understand the theories - the why's behind it all - but we also need a nuts and bolts, hands-on feel for what works and how to tweak what isn't working. That's where other parents with experience and training come in. We can help you learn how to translate theory into practice, troubleshoot problems and custom tailor interventions and supports so that they match your needs and your child's strengths.
